![]() Surfers Walk of FameHERMOSA BEACH SURFERS WALK OF FAMEThe Surfers Walk of Fame is located on the Hermosa Beach Pier. Hermosa Beach is the official birthplace of surfing in California. Through their radical changes of board design and evolving techniques, these surfers made riding the waves a new sport for fun and competition. We honor these 7 charter members and 16 pioneers of surfing with bronze plaques that are embedded on the pier at the shoreline. The dedication took place on March 29, 2003. The seven charter Surfers Walk of Fame Members are: Bing Copland, Hap Jacobs, Greg Noll, Mike Purpus, Jeff Stoner, Dale Velzy and Dewey Weber (1969 National Surfing Champion). The oldest surfer attending the ceremony was 85-year old Leroy Grannis, who continued surfing and taking surf photos until his early 80's. The ceremony was inspired and directed by Hermosa businessman Roger E. Bacon, who also raised $20,000 for the Walk of Fame.
